Washington Youth Tour

Duck River Electric has announced the 10 high school juniors participating in the 2024 Washington Youth Tour, a week-long tour of our nation’s capital in June. Students are awarded the tour based on their winning stories submitted through DREMC’s annual writing contest. Students participating in the writing contest not only tour Washington, D.C. but are also eligible to compete on a state level for scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Marshall County Schools’ Summer Learning Camp is in full swing at CHES and MES! Rising K-9th graders have been receiving math and reading instruction; an hour of physical education; and spend time doing hands-on STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Music) activities throughout the day. The engaging and interactive projects help develop a wide range of skills, including problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity, while also reinforcing important social skills, such as teamwork, communication, and collaboration.

2024 TASC Advisor of the Year

The Executive Board of the Tennessee Association of Student Councils (TASC) has named Vanessa Sweeney of MCHS as its 2024 Advisor of the Year. This award recognizes advisors who demonstrate extraordinary efforts to support the work of their student council. Araya Green and Maggie Steely submitted letters of nomination. Mrs. Sweeney has served as advisor for 10 years and says it is rewarding "seeing students realize their potential for leadership and catalyst for change in their school and community." Congratulations!

CHS rising senior Garrett Webster was recognized at the May Board Meeting by principal Brent Adcox for his academic and leadership accomplishments. He earned a perfect subset score on the ACT; will be attending TN Governor's School for the Sciences & Engineering at UT-Knoxville on a full scholarship; is a delegate to American Legion Boys State at Tennessee Tech, sponsored by the Cornersville Lions Club; and is a returning counselor for the Hugh O'Brien Leadership Conference at UT-Southern. His mother Carmela and Cornersville Lions Club member Marilu Clift are pictured with him. Congratulations!
