The Marshall County Vocational Education Center opened on March 11, 1976 and was renamed in 1981 in honor of W.R. "Spot" Lowe, Jr., a local businessman and Tennessee House Representative who was a strong supporter of vocational education in the the state. SLTC moved to its current location on Jason Maxwell Boulevard in 1984. In 1990, Spot Lowe Technology Center was accredited by the National Center for Career and Technical Education and was named a Tennessee Career Center of Excellence in 2010.

SLTC has played an important role in the economic development of Marshall County. The school's programs provide students with the skills they need to succeed in high-demand jobs. Current programs of study offered at Spot Lowe Technology Center, Marshall County High School, Cornersville High School, Forrest High School and Lewisburg Middle School include: Agribusiness; Agricultural Engineering and Applied Technologies; Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair; Business Management; Career Exploration; Cosmetology; Criminal Justice; Construction; Engineering; Environmental and Natural Resource Management; Human and Social Services; Nursing Services; Office Management; Teaching as a Profession (K-12); Veterinary and Animal Science; and Welding.

In addition to its academic programs, student clubs are offered including FBLA, HOSA, and participation in SkillsUSA.

    Top FAME Student

    Top FAME Student

    Armando Ruiz, a 2021 MCHS graduate, was recognized as a National Distinguished FAME graduate at the FAME National Conference held in Dallas in May. He was one of six students in the country, from over 40 chapters, who was honored for his academic achievements. Additionally, Ruiz and his teammate finished state runner up in the Robotics and Automation competition at Alabama SkillsUSA Championship held in April. Congratulations!

    Gene Haas Scholarship Award

    Andy England, a December Forrest School graduate is in his second trimester at TCAT- Shelbyville studying Machine Tool Technology and is pictured with the tool set he received as the Gene Haas Scholarship Award winner last semester. He was the Bronze Medalist in the CNC 2-Axis Turning Specialist competition at SkillsUSA Tennessee held in Chattanooga in April.

    Congratulations to FHS graduating senior Bob Ford on earning the Gene Haas Scholarship Award, which is $2500 worth of tools and a toolbox. Ford will be studying Machine Tool Technology at TCAT-Shelbyville this fall and this award has given him the tools needed to pursue his career plans. He is pictured with instructor Danny Pickle.

    New Automotive Teacher

    New Automotive Teacher

    Spot Lowe Technology Center welcomes Matt Sanders as the new Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair instructor, who will begin teaching this coming school year, following the retirement of Jerry Hooper.  This is his first teaching job and he stated, “I’m very excited to be teaching…my granddad always said if you have knowledge it’s good to pass it on.” A 2010 Marshall County HS graduate, Sanders earned an Automotive Technology diploma from TCAT-Shelbyville in 2022 and has experience as a mechanic.  “There were a lot of teachers I looked up to in school and I thought it would be a great opportunity to be that role model,” he added. Welcome!

    Eight local businesses took part in Spot Lowe Technology Center’s Job Fair for students, held on May 7th.  Representatives from Berry Global, Marelli North America, Marshall County EMS, Marshall County Schools, Talos Engineered Products, Teledyne Technologies, Walker Chevrolet, and Walker Die Casting shared with students job and apprenticeship opportunities.

With the retirement of Mr. Lyn Stacey, we’d like to officially welcome Mr. Frank Musgrave to his new position as CTE Director and Principal at Spot Lowe Technology Center. Mr. Musgrave moves to this position with thirteen years of experience teaching Engineering, here at Spot Lowe. Mr. Musgrave and his wife, Nichole, have a son that will be joining the school system this year as a kindergartner. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Musgrave to his new role.
