"Don" means to put on, and "doff" means to take off, used together for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like gowns, masks, and gloves, to emphasize the critical, sequential process of gearing up (donning) and safely removing (doffing) protective layers to prevent contamination and infection. These terms originated centuries ago as contractions of "do on" and "do off."
